An oil spill of about 126,000 gallons occurred when construction workers ruptured a 24-inch pipeline. They were installing two new pipelines six miles south of Exeland, Wisconsin.
The oil that spilled flowed into a pit that was dug for the construction project. The pipe ruptured when the workers were getting ready to drill under the road.
A trench box made of steel, which was put into a 15-ft. deep ditch to prevent it from collapsing, hit the pipeline and formed a large hole.
According to the officials, groundwater and soil were not affected by the spill.
